Default Creepy Number Stations

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haCm9JAFD58

Ok so there are these things called "number stations" which are basically random radio transmissions with a random string of numbers and sometimes music, no one officially knows where they come from and they sound creepy as hell. Google number stations for more info and "The Conet Project" has a ton of them.

ok that's creepy as hell.

Imagine walking in to a school that is completely deserted in the middle of the day, with this recording playing over the loud speakers throughout the school. AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

Deutsch: Amateurfunk?
English: Amateur radio, or ham radio?

Sorry, but to me sounds just like some amateur transmission (but not the real stuff, just some kid messing around a out of boredom), the signal sometimes gets reflected and you can even get connections withsomeone on the other end of the globe.

All's good, no need to freak out...

They are in German, because they are transmitted from Germany. They can also be Spanish, Chinese, French, English or Russian and probably few other.

The "secret" is that they are on very high frequency, but low power. This makes them a perfect tool for spies, as you need to "guess" a frequency to hear it otherwise, you can't jam it (too hard to do it, as the distance is really far usually) and all you need is a small, but potent radio.

This way, a spy from UK could receive a message while he's in Mexico. Also, the less buildings around sender and receiver, the better quality of transmission is. But it's pretty basic stuff, no?

Sounds like a recording of a kid saying numbers. Someone probably just put a repeating recording on a high frequency as a joke, I bet that person (if still alive seeing how old radio transmissions are) has had a good laugh at how people get creeped out at this.

No big deal really, a secret old station, oooOOooo.... >.>

That was the most confusing wiki article ever.

They transmit at low power, but you need huge antennas of 100KW to transmit that. But spies carry some in their pocket.
That must be some big pockets.
